Pick of the week GW19

Each week I’ll be doing a quick post on 1 player that I’m considering bringing into my team, and give a brief breakdown of why I think they are a good pick. GW 18’s pick of the week grabbed a goal at the weekend, so lets hope we can continue the trend!

This week I have turned my attentions to a resurgent Arsenal midfielder who looks set to recapture his point scoring form.

Aaron Ramsey

Two seasons ago Ramsey’s form and cheap price ensured that he was in almost every Sky team. It was no surprise, as his all action game enabled him to rack up the goals, assists, MOTM and bonus awards all for a bargain price.

Due to Arsenals growing injury list, it now seems that Ramsey has guaranteed game time and crucially in his favoured midfield role in the double pivot, rather than stuck out on the wing. Normally this position doesn’t bode well for fantasy returns but Ramsey has made an art of perfectly timed late runs into the box.

This box-to-box style means he also racks up the bonus points, already harvesting 3 tackle bonus and 4 passing bonus awards in just 11 starts, despite being out on the wing for some of those matches. This coupled with his goals and assist potential highlighted by the weekend clash with Sunderland, means that he is primed to deliver some big hauls over the coming weeks.

The Ozil factor

There does however lie an important obstacle in acquiring the Welsh man. The similarly priced Ozil (Ramsey 8.2, Ozil 8.4) is bang in form and collected his first MOTM display at the weekend. Although Ozil will never pick up a tackle bonus in his life, he has accrued 6 passing bonus awards this season. While this is less than Ramsey’s total of 7, from 3 fewer starts, Ozil has been an assist machine ensuring that he lies second in the overall midfield rankings.

With fantasy managers unlikely to double up on the Arsenal duo it appears to be a straight out choice between the two. If you had to choose now, who would you go for?

Good pick in my opinion. In yours, is he captain material? Arsenal’s fixtures rotate well.

He is definitely captain material and I may even draft him in as captain for Lukaku on Sunday. Its a big decision though, if I take this route, that trade will be 1 of 4 planned transfers over Christmas that will enable me to have a captain on every match day for the rest of December (10 captains!). But it does mean losing Lukaku who is in great form, so its a bit of a gamble.

I’m tempted to go for both of them. I stupidly transferred Sturridge in and now I need a replacement. Ramsey looks as good as anyone right now. Guaranteed to start in his favourite position, decent run of fixtures plus potential for explosive points scores. I already have Ozil

If I were you, I would hold onto Sturridge. He will likely start given Liverpools last display. Captain him next Sunday then transfer in Ramsey for his MNF. That way you get Sturridge x3, instead of Ramsey x1?

Oh wow, just read Sturridge is out until new year. Scratch that plan then, very unlucky!

Looks like i will be Ble to keep Tekkers til Aguero is fit again now. This weeks change likely to be Ayew for Mahrez before MNF. Captaincy for Lukaku followed by Kane.

Don’t know whether or not to keep Kun, he’s out this week and maybe for Arsenal game but I’m low on transfers and don’t wanna use one
