All Set gw34 – Damage Limitation

I’m not expecting a good weekend. With only one captain and my team facing a tough set of fixtures, I’ll be hoping my players can pull through and limit the damage.

9 transfers.
2.3 banked.

Butland replacements

Butland was beginning to look like the real deal and I hope he makes a speedy recovery. His injury hasn’t come at a great time for my fantasy plans though, as I was hoping to save transfers ahead of a busy fixture schedule.

If you are looking to save some dollar then Robles offers a cheap route into Everton backline that faces a couple of extra fixtures in the run in. Mignolet also has 2 extra fixtures and is a decent alternative to the cheaper Robles. The problem with these two is that I just don’t trust their defences.

With 1 extra fixture and forming part of a resolute Arsenal backine, Cech is the standout pick. The problem is that the former Chelsea stopper is still a doubt to start this weekend. He also doesn’t come cheap but this isn’t so much of a problem as, if I stick to my planned strategy, I shouldn’t need the extra money.

Given the fixture(s), I’ll probably opt for one of these three although I’ll likely wait until the last minute and hope the Cech situation becomes clearer. If non of the above appeal, then you might also consider those that don’t have an extra fixture(s), such as Lloris or Schmeichel.

Captain Strategy

You can view my full captain strategy guide here. This week was actually a very tough decision with quite a few options. I have decided to plump for just Aguero. This is partly because I can’t see a standout captain pick on Sunday and it would involve a transfer to get someone playing gameday 1 the following week.

If I had more transfers left, I would probably have gone Kane (liv) transfer to Lukaku (mun) then used my captain switch to get Aguero in against West Brom the following weekend. I am hoping that my transfers can be better spent later down the line, but Kane to Lukaku strategy (or something similar) is still a very good option.

Kane to Lukaku, did you get that from Disable’s article. The team in that is his second team, he has one higher

5 transfers on average in the top 5000 and 1000, 3 for the top 100! I still don’t know if I should get Barkley. 5 games in such a small amount of time, but he could get reduced minutes and he’s not in form. It’s a really hard decision

Ha no, it’s something I was considering all week. That or Payet > Barkley (similar strategy)

I know what you mean about Barkley I have opted against it after a lot of thought but it could so easily pay off. He’s still getting chances and he does like those MOTM awards when he plays well. If I didn’t need to make a keeper trade I may have done it.

How many transfers do you left? If you have more than me I think its worth it. Otherwise I would hold fire.

I have 7 left. I have a strategy, I can do the barkley trade and be ok I think. Arsenal played brilliantly against Everton which most didn’t see. Everton can still be good.

I know the team my rival has, he doesn’t have Alli. He also has a midfielder who keeps getting 2 points so he could have barkley as well. If I get him in then I get an extra barkley because of the captaincy which will scupper his plans. It will then be Alli vs Payet and my good defence vs his watford defence. It’s better than alli(2 games) vs barkley(5 games) and eventhough Dmitri is good, they are quite hard games.

Looks like you have made your mind up. If you have enough trades left for your planned strategy, then go for it!

6 is still plenty and more than most will have (hopefully more than your rival as well?)

Ii will be captain swapping on Sunday. Who’s best for Saturday: Aguero or Kane?

My spreadsheet says Kun, but I have a free change and tempted to go for Harry…

Both could go explode (or not!).

I fancy Kun to do the business against a Bournemouth side that looks on holiday

I have only 8 transfers left & a Butland problem to fix so dont see another option other than going the Aguero route. Will keep him for WBA & then maybe switch to Vardy for Sunderland before losing him for Lukaku (as opposed to your plan to lose Kane).

That is my initial strategy but havent planned as far ahead as you so not sure how that will pan out further down the line. Seems sound currently though as Vardy doesnt factor into my captaincy options – hoping it might save me a Kane transfer later on.

I think you put too much emphasis on the spurs-west brom game. 2 transfers there seems a waste. i know wba are on holiday and kane is in form but strikers rarely score against them, it’s a rugby team that puts 8 men in the box drowning the striker out and blocks after blocks. Midfielders score against wba the most. Anyway, the second last week the fixtures haven’t come out yet. It will be sat-sun-tues-weds. Having those 2 extra can give you payet(c)-somebody else(c)-payet(c)- lukaku(c). That’s 4 captains rather than 2 that week. It’s better than transferring kane in then out and using 2 transfers there imo.

I like the aguero(c) kane(c) lukaku(c) thing there though, most will captain an arsenal player I think

Cheers for the feedback. I could have changed my mind by then. Aguero (STO), Kane (WBA), Lukaku (BOU) does look juicy though. And it also brings Aguero and Lukaku back into the mix. if I’m struggling for transfers, I’ll just take the Arsenal route though.

          Take it that’s you plan?

Yeah I have to go the arsenal route. I’d love to captain aguero and then lukaku but I’d better not

Going for Payet (c) on Sat then switching to Mahrez on Sunday. Will leave armband on him for Sunderland away next week then switch it to Lukaku for the Palace game

Think I’m going to transfer in Lukaku and Barkley on Sunday, as well as bringing in either Cech or Migs to replace Butland (leaning towards Cech seeing as back in training today)
Got 12 transfers so may as well have some fun!

Sounds like a good plan. You could always transfer in Barkley/Lukaku as captain on Sunday, then use your switch this week to set yourself up for Saturday?

Although that would mean losing Payet, which may not be so great.

      Wish I had 12 transfers!

Wish I was in the top 30 😉
Cheers for the suggestion but Payet is staying put for now and happy to have Mahrez as captain this week and next

Cheers, you too. Keep changing my mind about transfer strategy for the coming weeks btw, hence why I haven’t put it up in the captain strategy post. So many options and still so many unknowns- it’s hurting my brain!

You’re not the only one! There are SO many possibilities. I actually changed my strategy completely after I posted that article but eventually went back to it (or at least something similar – see above).
