A solid if unspectacular start as my team kicked off the season with 82 points. All three captains got a goal with Hazard bringing home the MOTM award and a tidy 26 point haul.

£0.0 in the bank
I shifted my starting 11 around towards the end of last week, thinning out the defence enabling me to bring in Vardy up front as I kicked off the season in 343 formation. Vardy was unexpectedly taken off penalties and spurned several decent opportunities as he brought home a frustrating 2 points. Nevertheless I’m happy to have a leaner defence as it will enable my team to be more flexible as we move through the season.
Elsewhere Gueye chalked up a tidy 5 points and looks great value at £7.5m. Foster also seems good value at £6.1m while Tadic chipped in with a MOTM display and looks a good bet for the season.
Xhaka proved to be the biggest disappointment as he only made the bench. I had a feeling he may be eased in by Wenger but I plumped for him anyway. Having seen Xhaka benched, I then made a slightly rash decision to transfer him out for Noble in time for the Monday night clash with Chelsea. Priced the same and on pens he offers me a captain route for Sunday – although not a very exciting one.
Transfers and captain strategy
I’ll kick of the weekend with Ibra on Friday then make the switch to Aguero or Hazard for Saturday. I’ll probably transfer Vardy out for Payet or Defoe in time for Sunday. The original plan was Payet but Defoe looks sharp and also offers me another captaincy option when Sunderland play host to Everton on the 12th September. Alternatively, I may just keep the transfer and stick the captaincy on Noble. Either way it’s likely to be a last minute decision Sunday morning.
Redmond – Looks great value. Not keen on doubling up on Southampton for now though.
Mane – One of my favourite players, I have him in my second team. Slight injury doubt for the weekend though.
Stones – Just three points for him this week but he looks set for passing bonus every match and I fancy City for the title. I’ll wait a few weeks before I consider a transfer on a defender though, especially as City are still getting used to Guardiola’s tactics and they don’t have great fixtures.
Others – Payet, Defoe, Mahrez, Negredo, Snodgrass, Cazorla
Whats your season goal?
After last season’s 29th place my aim is top 100 again this year and to win my cash leagues (45 of them!). Hopefully I’ll be inside the top 1000 by Christmas and can push on from there.
Everyone is already playing catchup to last years overall winner Alan Wood. His team “FC Koban” scored a very impressive 104 points and takes the lead in both the cash and the free leagues. Just behind Alan is Mark Lambert‘s team “Bar with walls” on 102 as he slots into 2nd place in both Leagues.
These leagues are packed with high quality managers and will be very hard to win – but they also have a chance of scooping the league of league prizes. I slot into 14th place in the free league (out of 65) and 12th (out of 27th) in the cash league.
