GW 5 – Kunundrum

Despite a double captaincy failure last time out, my team churned out a respectable points tally to ensure I didn’t drop in rank. With Aguero sidelined for 2 weeks, I look to shake up my team ahead of the weekend.

Total points: 228
Rank: 1647
38 transfers left
£1.0 in the bank

The KUNundrum

Are you ditching Aguero for just 2 games at the cost of 2 precious transfers?

I’m not sure, although I am leaning towards bringing Sanchez in at present. I’ll then switch Aguero back in for Defoe in a 3 weeks time. Taking this route I’ll miss Aguero at the liberty in a couple of weeks but get an extra match out of Defoe.

That’s currently plan A. The slight problem with going Sanchez is that he’s a very expensive forward, giving me no flexibility in the long term. As a result, I’m also contemplating a couple of other plans that may see me opt for Cazorla or Payet in a switch to 352. This would give me a lot more cash in the bank and greater flexibility later down the line.

Another option is to plump for a straight switch to Lukaku. Great fixtures and he scored a couple for Belgium this week, so could have his confidence back. That said, he hasn’t scored in the PL since March, so would be a risk.

Other transfers

Noble and Pieters will be gone very soon, most likely this weekend. I’m currently leaning towards Baines and Antonio as replacements. I know that Noble will score a pen if I make the move but I think Antonio is on for a great season now Bilic has come to his senses and stopped playing him at rightback.

I’m also trying to figure out how to get a Watford or Burnley player in ahead of their Monday night clash on the 26th September. A short term move for Capoue or Deeney could be on the cards if Gray gets banned.

Captain Strategy

Whoever I draft in for Aguero will be my captain on Saturday. I’ll then switch to Hazard on Sunday followed by Defoe as Sunderland play host to Everton on Monday night.

SFFF Leagues

Not much movement at the top of the cash league with Sean Tobin’s “Detroit 442” sitting pretty on 252 points. In the free league, Abdul Rehman’s “Insane in DeBruyne” has shot into the lead with an impressive overall tally of 271 points – 26 ahead of Oliver Brown‘s “The Elf Army” in 2nd place.

I think I’ll be holding Aguero to save transfers in the long run, which means my biggest headache is one I share with you, namely Pieters.

I could potentially switch him out for Evans (or McAuley?) which would allow enough ITB for a decent upgrade to Xhaka or Redmond a little down the line if it’s needed. I’m not too sure of any good alternatives though to be honest. I’m all ears if anyone has any suggestions.

Evans / McAuley are both decent options. I still like Davies or a double up on Williams if you have the budget.

Do Macauley, Evans more injury prone. Williams also I good option can see Everton being a lot more solid at the back this year

I’ve had a change of heart (partially thanks to the poll on this site, very surprised how skewed opinion is towards ditch) and decided to dump Aguero for Lukaku. With Williams, that would be a total of four Everton players so I won’t be going that route. I think I’ll shell out the extra 0.2 million and pick up Dawson as his attacking stats look considerably better than both Evans’ and McAuley’s, hopefully he’s the right choice for the long term.

      Thanks for the help, guys.

I’m new to the skysports game and also a customer of the aguero ban. I’ve already wasted three transfers via an accidental hit of the “confirm” on the app – lesson learned.

My question relates to the economisation of transfers.

Strategy 1: Make transfers only for captaincy value. Hence go for Lukaku or Defoe
Strategy 2: Mid to long term rebalancing. I have a non scoring defender in Donald Love in my defence and Im very tempted to rebalance my team – use 2/3 transfers for the next four to five gameweeks.

What has been the approach you guys have employed regarding transfers on skysports? I steering toward Strategy 1 must say.

Lukaku is a better option than Defoe in my opinion, if you don’t like him for whatever reason I’d prefer Costa (form) to Defoe too.

Strategy 1 is good in general but becomes most relevant at the end of the season with the extra fixtures, which is why it’s best to try and keep to less than one transfer a week for the majority of the season. Perhaps share a screenshot of your team so we can take a look and advise from that? It’s a little tough to say whether or not you should restructure without knowing what you have and what you’d need to do.

I personally think you need to get your team sorted at the beginning… Pick long term that won’t require a transfer later down the line.. that way you can spend most of your transfers on captaincy. Your team is not in bad shape but Love needs to go in my opinion, although your options at that price are limited.

Gray will need to go soon as he will likely get a hefty ban. Maybe look to switch to 352 and upgrade Love to Baines/Williams. Good luck!

frustrating to have wasted some transfers because of the app lay-out….so go for minimum transfers over the next few weeks and only to add captaincy value, in my opinion
. I would leave the defender alone….his replacement might score only a handful of points. Major transfer surgery at this stage of the season might be costly later!

    Steklenburg
    Dawson mcAuley Valencia
    Lamela Kouyate Firmino Barkley
    Kun Gray Zlat
    0.1m ITB 216 points

Thinking downgrade Lamela>9m or less player to do Firmino>Hazard Sunday, not sure whether or not to save the transfers for Kun on this team either.

    Cheers!

Hmmm Kun > Haz seems the obvious one for me. Think Firmino could come good. Could still do Lamela to a cheepie though… would you then have enough in the bank for Gray > Aguero?

Thinking of doing Aguero to Lukaku.

Will leave 1.1M ITB to deal with Jakupovic/Nsue if they get dropped.

Can decide on how to get Aguero back when his ban is over.

Not bothered by the Aguero ban. With all my transfers still intact I’m happy to move him on. Was set on Sanchez but really want Cazorla and as I already have Xhaka I’m weary of the triple Arsenal. The slight chance that Sanchez might get a rest gives me the excuse to turn to Lukaku. Strongly considering hiding behind the sofa for Aguero against Swansea to maximise games from strikers. Allows me to have an extra game of Lukaku.

Ha, great game as a neutral at least.

As an aside, where do people usually go to keep an eye on live stats for the purpose of determining bonus point allocation? I normally check FourFourTwo or WhoScored which I’ve found to be very good with the exception that the successful tackle count isn’t accurate.

The tackling stats are: you have to win the tackle but also possession I think. Whoscored shows tackles that don’t win possession as well which makes it look like a player has made loads of tackles.

So you need a tackler who wins possession. For example, a tackle that goes out for a throw-in won’t be classed a tackle by Opta.

    Like

    • Sam W September 11, 2016 / 12:37 pm

Not quite. If the ball goes out of play then it is deemed safe and will be classed as a tackle by Opta. If the ball stays in play then the tackle must recover possession for either the tackler or a teammate to be classed as successful by Opta. Other Opta definitions for the game can be found on the scoring page.

for Hazard price – you’d expect set pieces, pens and goal threat. From what i see he seems to satisfied in isolation on the left flank, whilst Willian & Oscar coordinate most of the attacks.

Indeed he is back to form, and on pens but for his ability there’s so much more to offer – small mentality player.

agreed he’s a bonus magnet, probably his biggest swing.

tempting as it is to pull the trigger ill have to stick with both mahrez & hazard, as im already in transfer overdraft in terms of gw to transfers ratio.

having not played ff for a good five years knowing what i’ll be letting myself in for (wasting time on boards like this; all respects paid) – must say the one true lesson learnt in the past holds true for today; mindgames against yourself; so tempting to rid of non performing assets and pile on the bandwagons. However i must resist, be prudent and steadily accumulate. I must ignore my own biases, watch games (more time wasted) and form sound judgements, and if all fails Lamps (c) will bail me out.. oh wait.
